Integrative Guides are trained professionals that provide supportive guidance and resources to people with cancer. Their services and skills vary. Services may include research, support in evaluating options, identifying providers, assistance in decision-making, help with preparing questions for medical appointments, sharing resources related to the dimensions of integrative cancer care, mind-body support, spiritual support, and other types of assistance. Skills are related to their education, professional experience and networks, communication, people skills, and other qualities. Integrative Guides also have different degrees of knowledge about integrative cancer care.
The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) certifies CancerGuides® through their training programs in integrative oncology. James S. Gordon, MD, CMBM's Founder and Director, began the CancerGuides training in 2000. CMBM CancerGuides are health professionals and patient advocates trained to create safe, effective, individualized programs of comprehensive and integrative care for people with cancer and their families.
EmbodiWorks lists Integrative Guides certified as CMBM CancerGuides and other qualified Integrative Guides without CMBM training. We highly recommend that people with cancer consult with Integrative Guides for support during their journey. Consultations are almost always available through telephone appointments.
