What is the Budwig diet?
The Budwig diet is an oil-protein diet featuring organic flaxseed (linseed) oil and organic cottage cheese (quark). Some of the additional foods in the diet are freshly squeezed vegetable juices, ground flaxseed oil with yogurt, raw and cooked vegetables, grains, and warm teas. Foods not allowed include sugar, animal fats, salad oils, meat, butter, and margarine.
What are the potential benefits of the Budwig diet?
The developer of the Budwig diet claimed that a diet based on flaxseed oil and cottage cheese could prevent or cure cancer and other chronic diseases. Her research indicates that highly unsaturated fatty acids are the undiscovered factor in respiratory enzyme function. Along with certain forms of protein, highly unsaturated fatty acids play the critical part in the bridging of optimal function between fats and proteins, absorption and utilization of oxygen, and many other processes such as supporting healthy blood.
What is the history of the Budwig diet?
The Budwig diet was developed by Johanna Budwig, PhD, a German biochemist specializing in fats and oils.
